First of all, I want you to know that I do sympathize with you about these lip sores. They are nasty and strong enough motivators for someone to forget that people exist and just play video games, watch YouTube videos, and catch up on social networking.
But the fact is that the treatment for cold sores – just like the treatment you use for an infection of any kind – can be helpful or hurtful to your body. It can even be toxic. Just because these lip sores start out small doesn’t mean that putting a little dab of something on it won’t matter at all and won’t cause problems later on.
One of the cold sore treatments that you really shouldn’t try at home because of its potential toxicity is Alum powder.
Oh boy, there is much to say about this one.
First of all, read what this poor forlorn soul (stuck in the depths of chemical hell and all its concepts) has to say about the use of alum for his cold sores.
“My cold sore was humungous! No matter what, that ugly sore was still there every time I looked in the mirror. I used this and that on it, everything I could find, Right before I gave up, I thought that maybe alum could be used for cold sores, kind of as a type of cold sore remedy. So I put it on the cold sore. You wouldn’t believe it but the cold sore withered up! The darn thing was killed by alum!!“
“My whole family has had an issue with cold sores, too. When my father’s face sprouted up the ugly sore, he decided to give the alum a try, too. Just like it worked for me, it worked for him. Maybe it can work for you, too. It will probably feel like it’s burning when you put it on the sore. By the way, alum is something that grandmas used to use when making pickles long ago.)”

My, my, my! Do we have a cold sore remedy winner here that really works or do we have a dud that is toxic and belongs in the toxic waste receptacle? I say we have a dud and here’s why.
First of all, alum is not something out of the spice cabinet like cinnamon and thyme. Alum is a short term for aluminum. Everyone by now should know that aluminum is a metal linked with dementia; early dementia, that is. In studies where researchers found a community of people with very high rates of dementia, they did some fancy checking. And what did they find? Awfully high levels of aluminum in the water of the community. Once they removed the high aluminum, the younger generation experienced less and less dementia.
Your body records every little bit of aluminum you take in. Your body also records every bit of other metals you take in. Aluminum is already found in high concentrations in the earth, and to add aluminum directly to a cold sore is like adding mercury to a cold sore. Will the mercury dry up your cold sore? You bet something will happen. And meanwhile, you are accumulating more and more metals.
Cold sore sufferers don’t just have a one time outbreak of the virus. They could have it several times a year. That would be the equivalent to adding alum 12 times a year to an already stressed body. You see, cold sores only come out when the body is stressed. Not smart!
Please go for a smarter choice of cold sore remedy next time, and stop poisoning your father! That would be my advice to this young man.
You must respect your body! Know what it is you are doing to it. Just because a cold sore is relatively small doesn’t mean that whatever cold sore treatments you do to it is innocuous and won’t matter. Your body records everything you do!
People with cold sores like to mix up all sorts of things from the medicine cabinet and the kitchen to create their own Kitchen Sink Remedy for Lip Sores.
Usually they start with a little mixing bowl from the kitchen.
They start with an aspirin and grind it up by smashing it between a few spoons. Put it in the bowl. Next add salt. About a teaspoon should do. Then add a teaspoon of baking powder. Next add some lemon juice to make the mixture wet. Then add crushed garlic. And lastly, add a good toothbrush full of toxic toothpaste that one should never consume (Read the warning on toothpastes.)
Watch out because what happens next is that it starts bubbling in the bowl.
Place the concoction on your cold sore.
And what does the Cold Sore King and Queen have to say about this?
Hogwash! Leave the mixing of chemicals for supervised science fair projects for 10th grade and never try this at home. I don’t care how desperate you are for remedies for a cold sore!
This cold sore remedies for lip sores is MAD SCIENCE!
The fact is that of those four ingredients, all you needed was only one of the ingredients of that deathly mixture. It was the only nontoxic part of the mixture.

Can you guess which part it was? The answer is garlic. Consume the garlic instead. Garlic is well known for its antiviral properties. Worried about garlic breath? Where are you going socially when you have a cold sore? Nowhere, so stay home and eat garlic pesto or cut off the tops of the garlic cloves, put them in a small oven pan, microwave for a few minutes in a covered dish until the garlic has become spreadable, and spread it on bread or crackers. Eat to your heart’s content.

You may be thinking to yourself, “Well, what do I do about the cold sore itself? Shouldn’t I put something topical on it?”
Yes, you absolutely can. Use something that inhibits the virus from penetrating the cell wall, like d-alpha-tocopherol (Vitamin E oil), or something that kills viruses on contact like alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. These are all safe and easy topical treatments.
Remember this always: Your body records every insult done to it and every toxic substance you put in or near your body.
Think smart. Be smart. Love your body all the way to the grave. Don’t help it to the grave with toxic remedies for lip sores that just don’t work.
